Getting to 33 Beach

Fly.

Martha’s Vineyard has an airport (MVY) with connections from multiple major cities including Boston and LaGuardia. https://www.mvy.com/byplane.html is a helpful resource. It can be somewhat unpredictable at times because of weather, but it is the most straightforward method of getting to the Island. A more common method is to fly to Boston (BOS) and then take ground transportation/ferry to the island (see below).

Drive.

Whether you are diving in from afar, or down from Boston, if you can use a phone, you can get to one of two Ferry Terminals - Woods Hole and Hyannis (Seasonal). A few notes: Leaving Boston can be heavy traffic at the end of the day, or returning to Boston in the Morning. There is a bus service from Boston to Woods Hole (https://peterpanbus.com/routes/boston-to-woodshole-bus/) and this is a common method; rideshare is another one but remember it’s a 90 minute trip without traffic. If you are planning to park your car at the ferry and not take it, the parking is 10 minutes inland, and requires a shuttle (so make sure you plan for it!). We also tend to bring wine or other hard to find delicacies on the ferry.

If you plan on renting a car, obviously do so ahead of time, and make certain you take the ferry to the correct ferry (Vineyard Haven or Oak Bluffs) where you can pick it up.

Ferry.

The ferry is what makes Martha’s Vineyard special. It’s a clear vacation at this point! The SteamShip authority has two ports, one in Woods Hole, the other in Hyannis, which is seasonal. While you do not need to make a reservation if you are traveling without a car and can just show up. If you are traveling with a car (taking it to the island), you absolutely need to make one as soon as possible (weeks to months ahead of time!). You can always chance it with car availability, but why wait? From Woods Hole to Vineyard Haven takes about 45 minutes, and is a beautiful sail. There is a bar and snack area on board. On the island end there are van taxis or rideshares that are available, and its less than a 4-minute drive from the Vineyard Haven dock, or 8-minute drive from the Oak Bluffs Dock, to 33 Beach. Lastly, use the actual website for the steamship authority aka Ferry to make reservations, etc., and avoid third-party sites for this: https://www.steamshipauthority.com/.
