On July 15, 1845, the New York Yacht Club opened its first clubhouse one year after its founding. It was a one-room Gothic Revival building designed by noted architect A. J. Davis, in Hoboken, New Jersey -- across from Manhattan. Over the next half century, the Club would occupy four additional clubhouses: two in Manhattan and two on Staten Island. The Club maintained these “stations” which were small buildings and landings where members and friends could rendezvous, send a letter or make a telephone call.
The NYYC continued to expand and by 1894, the New York Yacht Club had eight Clubhouses: Station 1 in Bay Ridge; 2 in New York NY; 3 in Whitestone NY; 4 in New London, Connecticut; 5 in Shelter Island, New York; 6 in Newport RI; Station 7 in Vineyard Haven, now known as 33 Beach, and Station 8 at Rendezvous Glen Cove.
